About the Artist

Catherine Lottes
Born in Denver, CO
Lives & works in Milwaukee, WI
As a public artist, I create site-specific works, extensively researching the area to understand and evoke the particular "genius loci" or spirit of place.
My work has evolved over 53 years as I perfect processes and means of expression in the mediums of glass, light, photography, and painting. Every project is an ongoing journey or quest from the familiar to the brink of something new and even more magnificent. I find the integral research, discovery and fabrication processes exhilarating, satisfying and joyful.
My exuberant creative drive, vivid imagination, and insatiable curiosity were ignited at a young age as I played, explored, and attended grade school in Denver, CO and surrounding suburbs. Visually oriented, I began painting at 4 years old and have been creating art ever since. I have grown to appreciate the importance of place and placemaking and its influence on our identity, sense of self, and our relationships to our environment and interwoven communities.
